Ethics of the image.
Fondazione Caravelli regards every image as a responsibility. To photograph a vulnerable person is not to own their story.
Living principles
- Consent
- No image is used without an adequate framework of consent. For minors, the authorisation of guardians is imperative.
- Dignity
- We choose images that preserve the dignity of those represented. No humiliating close-up, no staging of misery.
- Childhood
- Children’s faces must be protected before they are shown. When necessary, we use discreet framing, details or treatments that protect identity.
- Proof, not emotion
- The image serves to witness a gesture, not to produce emotion. Proof before sentiment.
- Illustrative images
- Some images have illustrative value and are marked as such. They do not constitute proof of an action of the Foundation.
- Credits
- Every image keeps its credit, source and licence, gathered on the photo credits page.
